Waterloo Region has a world-class transit system that will help support our community now and as we grow. Giving more people options to choose public transit for work, school, daily services and their personal life is essential to meeting our climate goals and providing equitable opportunities for everyone in our community. 

A central point where routes and modes meet, is essential to support our transportation system as we grow and ensures that residents, businesses, and visitors have access to efficient and reliable transit for decades to come.

The following transportation modes will be part of the Kitchener Central Transit Hub services: 

• ION light rail transit 
• Grand River Transit 
• Regular service to YKF Region of Waterloo International Airport 
• Expanded GO train and bus service 
• VIA Rail 
• Inter-city bus service 
• CarShare 
• Neuron Mobility Scooters and Bikes
• Connection to Waterloo Region Trail network for pedestrians and cyclists 

The Transit Hub will be located at King Street West at Victoria Street North – also known as Central Station along the ION route. 

The Transit Hub is one part of a larger, long-term mixed use development along Victoria Street North, between King Street West and Weber Street West in Kitchener. Over time, this multi-block project may include high-density housing, space for community and commercial uses. As this longer-term aspect of the project advances, public engagement and consultation will happen throughout the community.

It is anticipated that the Kitchener Central Transit Hub will begin public operations in late 2029.

The Kitchener Central Transit Hub project is being led by the Region of Waterloo, in partnership with Metrolinx.

As part of the long-term project’s development, a private sector partner(s) will be selected to assist with the construction, and delivery of the transit hub, ensuring efficiency, innovation, and long-term value for our community. Work on the Transit Hub site is expected to begin later this year.
